Manchester United :Transfer Report

The transfer window is now closed and all the big teams have done transfers to strengthen their squad in order to challenge for titles at both domestic and European level. But fans of one team will certainly be disappointed the way they conducted their transfer business and the team is of-course Manchester United .

Fans were hoping that Manchester United will add some quality players to strengthen so that not only they will defend their premier league title but also do well in the Uefa Champions League.Manchester United needed to work on certain areas to improve their squad specially in the midfield as Paul Scholes announces his retirement from club football so they lack creativity in their midfield and they needed to replace him with a world class player.

Manchester United were linked with many players early in the transfer window but United were serious to land one world class midfielder in the form of former Arsenal Captian Cesc Fabregas. Fabregas had a difficult season with Barcelona and his position in the team was not guarranted under Tito Vilanova and he was definately not happy sitting on the bench. So United took their chance and make their first bid for Fabregas for about £25m which was rejected by Barcelona .

Manchester United maintain their interest in Fabregas and Moyes was keen to make a second bid to tempt Barcelona to sell Fabregas with £30m bid but Barcelona were reluctant to sell him their European rival and United knew that Arsenal have first option on Fabregas should Barcelona try to sell him .United wasted their time on Fabregas and make their third bid of £35m but at that time New Barca manager Gerardo Martino convinced Fabregas to stay at Barcelona as he is very important to his first team plans and then Fabregas publicly stated that he wants to stay at Barcelona leaving Manchester United empty handed.

Manchester United should have plan B if they knew that Fabregas deal will not materialise but they haven’t got a plan to sign anyone other than Fabregas. Manchester United could have tried to sign Luka Modric but they never really make a bid for him.Failure to land a top class midfielder is really an embarrassment for a big club like Manchester United if Sir Alex were the manager that would have never happened.

Manchester United were linked to sign Benfica defender Eziquel Garay back when Sir Alex was the manager and the deal was almost done but when Moyes came he never really took interest in signing him from Benfica and in the end deal was failed to happen and United miss out on top quality defender. Manchester united needed a long term replacement for Nemajia Vidic but the failed to sign him amd this may came to haunt considering the injury record of Vidic and Smalling is also not playing because of long term injury and Jones recently got injured in a match against Liverpool .

Moyes wanted to sign both Fellaini and Baines from Everton and make a bid of £35m of both players which Everton rejected and Everton manager Roberto Martinez criticize Moyes for offering a cheap bid for both players.Manchester united do got Fellaini on the final day of the transfer window by making £27.5m bid for him .Fellaini himself ask Everton to let him join Manchester United.Manchester united basically overpay for Fellaini they could have signed for £24m and they paid £3.5m more than that.

United fans wanted more than Fellaini for their team but only one signing will not make United stronger. Although Fellaini is a good player and will provide strength in the midfield but he is not a creative midfielder what Manchester united fans were hoping for. Only the time will tell whether this lack of spending is good for them or not as other teams in the premier league have done well in strengthening their squad as compared to Manchester United…
